South Carolina’s Unions Stand in Solidarity with Minnesota Workers Calling for End to ICE Occupation on Day of Truth & Freedom

South Carolina AFL-CIO President Boris Gibson released the following statement about the Day of Truth & Freedom on Friday, Jan. 23 in Minnesota:
“South Carolina’s labor movement was outraged by the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis. Her death is yet another tragic example of the fear and violence caused by the reckless actions of ICE in our communities and the danger it presents to all working people.
“Union members across our state stand in solidarity with Minnesotan workers as they join together for the Day of Truth & Freedom to demand an end to ICE’s occupation of their neighborhoods.
“The Trump administration’s ICE activity is trampling on our most fundamental rights and freedoms: to live, work and raise our families without the threat of violence from our government; to have safety and dignity on the job; and to return home to our loved ones at the end of the day.
“In the labor movement, an injury to one is an injury to all. Which is why we are proud to support working people in Minnesota as they reject fear and take action to protect their immigrant neighbors from intimidation and abuse.”
